Prize for Frontiers of Optoelectronics: Announcement and Call for Application/Recommendation

● Background
From this year on, the International Photonics and Optoelectronics Meetings (POEM) will set up the Prize for Frontiers of Optoelectronics, to inspire cutting edge scientific discovery and technology innovation in the fields of optoelectronics, and to promote international communication and cooperation between researchers. The campaign of the prize will become an annual activity of POEM. The formal ceremony of the prize will be presented during the banquet and will undoubtedly become a great event of POEM.
● Description
The Prize for Frontiers of Optoelectronics is a series of three prizes for the research area of information optoelectronics, energy optoelectronics and biomedical optoelectronics respectively. Each includes one international prize and one domestic prize. The international prize will recognize excellent researchers outside China, while the domestic prize will recognize excellent researchers in China. The detailed setting of the prize is as follows:
The Prize for Frontiers of Information Optoelectronics (one international prize and one domestic prize)
The Prize for Frontiers of Energy Optoelectronics (one international prize and one domestic prize)
The Prize for Frontiers of Biomedical Optoelectronics (one international prize and one domestic prize)
● Awards
International prize: ¥10,000 plus a prize certificate
Domestic prize: ¥10,000 plus a prize certificate
● Requirement
Academic achievements should be original and published in 2018.
● Submission
Please download the attached Application/Recommendation form and send the finished form (DOC or PDF format) with the full length article (PDF format) to poem@mail.hust.edu.cn.
Submission deadline is Sep. 30, 2019.
● Selection procedure
To guarantee justice and authority, the prize winners will be selected through personal application/expert’s recommendation and subsequent peer-review.
The applicant/recommender should state their aimed area (information optoelectronics, energy optoelectronics or biomedical optoelectronics) and highlight the major contribution of their work in the Application/Recommendation form. Each application/recommendation will be peer-reviewed by experts in the corresponding area and each reviewer will give a score (100 in total) to each application/recommendation. The average score will be the final score of the application/recommendation. For the international prize and the domestic prize in each area, the highest score outside China and in China respectively will be the prize winner. The awardee is the corresponding author/authors of the submitted article as representative.

Best Student Paper Award
In order to encourage more outstanding students to participate in POEM 2019, POEM 2019 will set up the best student award. To be the qualified candidates, the applicants are required to choose the option of "apply for the best student award" during online submission. The awards will be granted at the conference banquet.
Travel Award
To attract and encourage more outstanding foreign students to participate in POEM 2019, POEM 2019 will set up a travel award.
1. Application for the award is open to overseas students with non-Chinese nationality.
2. The applicants must be the first author of the accepted paper in POEM 2019.
3. The applicants should submit the application form and his/her short curriculum vitae of (max 2 pages) to the conference organizing committee (poem@mail.hust.edu.cn) by September 15, 2019.
4. The committee will notify the applicant the result of the award by email by September 20, 2019.
5. The award provides the winners up to $500 each to cover their partial travel to POEM 2019 or accommodation in Wuhan.
